Split Personality

It's as plain as the nose on your face.

Tuff Talk

"Hey! Don't even think about screwin' around with me. I mean, don't even contemplate mulling over the vaguest intention of hypothetically imagining a parallel existence where you might in some indirect sense of the word screw around with me. 'Cause I WILL come down on you. Come down as in crush, destroy, exterminate, eliminate, cream, smash, waste, wipe out, wreck, and totally disenfranchise your ass. So. Back off. Pretty please."

Meanwhile Down at Headquarters

Which leads us to wonder what's going on over at hindquarters. I mean, I apologize for the obvious... clothes are time consuming to draw, especially when they have to be designed to fit over little fleshy stumps instead of full fledged multi-limbed bodies. Hell, these guys don't even have ears. They do seem to have opinions, though, judging by the two little gasbags front and center.

Funny Shaped Character on a Funny Shaped Piece of Paper

This guy, who looks upon reflection like a space polo player, ended up on one of the bazillion odd shaped scraps of illustration card that float around my work area. Had I picked up the card differently, he could have just as easily come into the world as a very long dachshound.

Casual Friday

Man, I was so damn casual about Casual Friday that I missed it completely. So here we are on Sub-Casual Saturday. 9:00. and I'm still padding about in a bathrobe.

Aqua Pet

Was thinkin' about octopi today. National Geographic says they have emotions, and can display 'play' behavior. Which means, I guess, they are capable of being sore losers. Anyway, my little squiddo is taking his little buddy out for a walk... uh... swim.

Pretty Girl

Well, not, like, movie star pretty. Just sorta average-ish, not-really-out-of-your-league, kinda pleasant pretty.

Yeah, But Does Cute Cut It?

Looking at things objectively, a lot of my doodles sail through life, expecting to coast along on simple adorability. No purpose, no point, nothing clever to say, no great artistic breakthroughs. They assume the world at large will give 'em slack for being merely precious. We probably shouldn't encourage them and maybe a dose of clear eyed criticism is just what they need. Like, for instance, is that a hat or hair or what? And, hey, where's the mouth... she eats, right?

Happy Valentine's Day.

Sad Sack Cossack

I used to spend a lot of my doodling time sketching out little International types in traditional type costumes, which I suppose, veered a bit uncomfortably into non-P.C. stereotype territory. Anyway, here's a vintage scrawling that doesn't look too offensive (I think).

Opposites Attract

She was wild, unfettered and free. He was cautious, tradition bound and, um, upside down. They were from different worlds... could their romance survive? And could they find anyone who cared?

Y-I-I-I-I-K-E-S!

It's Friday and I just realized all the deadlines to my various freelance projects are looming, and by "looming" I mean "crazy-ass-impossible-what-was-I-thinking-when-I-promised-this-will-just-have-to-get-it-done-somehow-boy-I-wish-I-didn't-stay-up-late-last-night-watching-that-Red-Skelton-DVD". More or less.

Sneakin' a peek at the weekend. Looks promising.

Little Corner of Heaven

A mug of hot cocoa with the last of the Christmas candy canes melting away. Just about perfect. Wait. No. Maybe we're reading the last two chapters of a really old mystery novel. Or watching a black and white movie on TV. Yeah. Now it's perfect.

Handy Bunny

Okay, this turned out a lot creepier on paper than it was in my head.

Let's Face It

I just love drawing people, and I could doodle faces all day long. This one is from a scratch pad I did a while ago, and when I look back at it I wonder: did I draw the guy with the little eeny teeny eyes first, then a girl with really enormous peepers... or the other way around?

We Should Have More Holidays Devoted to Rodents

Not that people seem to make much a fuss about Groundhog's Day anymore except to say how much they like that old Bill Murray movie. Ever since Ernie Bushmiller died, cartoonists just don't do justice to second tier holidays. Where are all the great Arbor Day jokes?

Casual Friday Again

Then again, are piercings and tattoos ever really casual? I mean, if they are your very best nose rings and the skin art was the most elaborate that you could afford, that's almost like your Sunday best, right? Except it's, you know, Friday.
