Karloff the Uncanny

Here's a doodle of BK I originally blogged earlier this year. That sort-of-tilty-down-with-the-face-and-tilty-up-with-the-eyes thing was his stock and trade, and he was giving audiences the creeps with it long before anyone thought of using chainsaws in horror movies. I like the part in THE BLACK ROOM when he sits down and has a little snack and muses: "A pear is the best fruit! Lots of juice in a pear! Adam should've chosen a pear. I like the feel of a pear! And when you're through with it..." (tosses it away) At this point he strangles his mistress and throws her body into a hidden pit.
